Brooklyn engagement photos can be seriously magical! If you’re looking to get your engagement photos taken in the NYC area, then you won’t want to miss out on this post.

As an NYC wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to take engagement photos across the city for many incredible couples, including Maddie and Pablo, who I’ll be chatting about a bit more in this post.

Keep reading to learn all about their Brooklyn engagement photos, as well as some ticks and tricks when you’re planning to take your own, like the best spots to go and the best time to take them.

Brooklyn Engagement Photos Featuring Maddie + Pablo

Earlier this year, I captured the engagement photos for Maddie and Pablo all around Brooklyn. We did a few photos around their apartment, McCarren Park (in Williamsburg, Brooklyn), and then also a few on their rooftop with the city skyline in the background.

Needless to say, the photos show just how breathtaking Brooklyn can be. Even though all these photos were taken in the same area, each setting looks completely different from the other, from the two of them kissing at a table to Maddie and Pablo with their dog!

Maddie and Pablo love spending time together, whether that’s on long walks, exploring new restaurants, or just hanging out at home. They also wanted this session to capture their day-to-day life and the era that they are in right now.

This made the rooftop pictures even more special because they can look back on these with their kids and reminisce about their old apartment where they were living when they got engaged and remember this amazing time in their lives!

Take a look at some of the photos in the gallery above!

Best Spots for Brooklyn Engagement Photos

If you’re looking for where in Brooklyn to go to get your engagement photos taken, you’re in luck. I’ve rounded up some of the best places to go… and yes, some of these were used for Maddie and Pablo!

DUMBO

First up is DUMBO. DUMBO engagement photos are some of the best ones that you can get around Brooklyn! DUMBO is a neighborhood in NYC that’s known for being rather trendy… but it’s worth the hype. It’s right in the Brooklyn borough and has cobblestone streets.

If you’ve ever seen the famous photo of the Brooklyn Bridge from the street between brownstone buildings, that’s DUMBO! So, this is also a great place to go if you are looking for Brooklyn Bridge engagement photos.

Throughout the area of DUMBO, you can find so many cute places to take photos, from boutiques to cafes to restaurants and everything in between. If you’re an art lover, you’ll also love all the galleries this area has to offer.

McCarren Park

McCarren Park is another spot where we were lucky enough to take photos during the engagement session with Maddie and Pablo.

This Brooklyn public park is right next to Greenpoint and Williamsburg and has tons of green space that’s perfect for photos. It’s a popular spot to go for rec sports in the city. With its beautiful greenery, it’s easy to find spots for more enchanting engagement images.

Brooklyn Heights Promenade

Next up is the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, one of the top attractions in Brooklyn. It offers unparalleled views of the skyline.

Along the walkway, there are so many great spots to stop and capture lovely engagement photos. Because of how long it is, even though it’s busy a lot of the time, it’s usually possible to find a spot that’s a little bit quieter.

Rooftops

This might sound odd… but the rooftops throughout the area are also great spots for taking Brooklyn engagement photos! Because Maddie and Pablo live in the area, we were able to take photos on their apartment rooftop, which was a huge plus.

However, if you don’t live in Brooklyn but still want to take your photos here, there are other ways to get the NYC skyline in a few photos like going to places that are right on the water.

For an even more special photo, consider going for sunrise or sunset. The colors of the sky, mixing with pinks, oranges, and even purples, look so stunning, set against the skyline of the city that never sleeps.

Jane’s Carousel

Jane’s Carousel is a famous amusement park ride dating back to 1922! This carousel has 48 horses and has been completely restored. Today, it can be found in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Whether you want photos taken directly on the carousel or you want the carousel in the background (it looks really cool as it blurs by), you’ll get some breathtaking photos taken here. It looks even cooler in the evening when it lights up!

Your own apartment

Again, if you live in NYC, then your own apartment can actually serve as an amazing place to take engagement photos. This is because you both know the environment well, which will make you a lot more comfortable in the photos from the get-go. (Because, let’s be honest, we aren’t all 100% comfy in front of a camera until we are a little ways into a photo shoot.)

Just think about how awesome photos of you both in your kitchen, cuddling on the couch, or even sitting out on your balcony will be. These photos will remind you of your time in your own apartment, even 20 years from now when you’ve moved out!

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is such an awesome place to go to take engagement photos in Brooklyn. It covers about 50 acres of land right near Prospect Park. Throughout the garden are so many green landscapes with flowers and plants and everything in between.

For an ethereal vibe in your engagement photos, this can be a great place to go. Even though NYC is a city, there are so many green hideaways like this that are truly an oasis.

Coney Island

A couple sitting on a blanket on a beach kissing with champagne glasses in their hands. Behind them is Coney Island.

Lastly, Coney Island is also a great spot if you want to add a bit of fun to your Brooklyn engagement photos! This area is known for entertainment, featuring fun restaurants, rides, shops, and more.

Plus, it’s right on the water, so there’s tons of sand and beach vibes all around. (And if you’re a Taylor Swift fan, you may want to get photos here because she has a song “Coney Island” on Evermore.)

You can get your engagement photos taken out on the beach, at the top of the Ferris wheel looking out over to the city, or even licking an ice cream cone while chilling on a bench under the sun. How memorable is that?

Best Time to Take Photos in Brooklyn

Now you might be wondering, when is the best time to take photos in Brooklyn? Well, it depends!

First, you’ll want to think about the time of day. Do you want your photos taken in the morning, mid-day, or later in the evening? Morning photos can be beautiful with sunrise if you’re a morning person and is a great way to avoid having a ton of people around/in your photos. Mid-day, you’ll have some fun shadows to play with, which can make for epic photos, but it’ll be busier outside. In the evening, you will be able to capture the sunset behind you, plus you’ll be able to see the golden hour and the entire city lit up at night.

Next, you’ll want to think about the season. Because it’s in the northeast, you can expect all four seasons in NYC!

Winter is magical, there’s a reason NYC is in pretty much every holiday movie, but it can be cold. Spring is beautiful, and you can capture flowers blooming throughout the city, including in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park. Summer is classic but hot, and it’s also a popular time to visit the city. For beautiful colors, fall can be a great option, depending on what type of photos you are looking for, as the foliage begins to take over the city. We can definitely talk about this and help you decide what’s perfect for you!
